What Is DNA Barcoding?

DNA barcoding meaning, in simple terms: it is a molecular technique that identifies a species by reading a short, standardized section of its DNA  its “barcode”  and matching that sequence against a validated reference library. Much like a supermarket scanner reads a UPC barcode to identify a product, DNA barcoding reads a specific gene region to identify an organism, often down to species level, from even a small or degraded sample.
