Histopathology

It is a process to examination or study of whole tissue under microscope. Many type of specimen received at our Laboratory. All specimen analysed as per type of tissue.

They examine the tissue carefully under a microscope looking for the changes in cells that might explain what is causing a patient illness. pathologist are leading the way with new techniques such as fluorescence in-situ hybridization ( FISH ) and polymerase chain reaction ( PCR ) to map genetic material in tissues or tumours which is essential in the management of many cancers.

Mainly three type of specimen received at Laboratory:

1.Large specimen include organs or operative body parts ex. Uterus .it is use for the detection of cancer or which type .confirmed the specimen should be received in formalin.

2. Biopsies in which tissue removed from the scalpel or core biopsies in which method needle inserted into a suspicious mass of the body to remove a slither or core of tissue that can be examine under microscope

3. Fine needle aspiration fluid or small type of tissue can be obtained  . In which process use very fine needle for cytology fluid material

For some diseases surgeon can get sample of tissue interpreted quickly through the use of frozen section. Frozen section is used in lymphoma. Lymph nodes are the tissue most commonly examined in histopathology. For many type of blood cancers, a bone marrow biopsy also required for a definitive diagnosis.

Tissue specimen comes from various sources for the confirmation of various types of diseases. Commonly Cancer and Tuberculosis.  For the detection or confirmation of cancer specimen preserved in formalin it’s a lengthy process .after processing the specimen are fix in fixative for permanently it is also called as Tissue block.

Tissue block is also received at our lab for the confirmation of Tuberculosis. . In all process use to good and high quality or adequate equipment at our lab.
